1. Purpose of the Platform

This platform provides access to a curated database of high-mass stars and related astrophysical data for research and scientific purposes. Access is granted exclusively for non-commercial, academic, or scientific use.

This platform has been developed within the framework of a project co-funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, through the Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia of Spain, and with the support of the Generalitat Valenciana (Conselleria d'Educació, Cultura, Universitats i Ocupació), in collaboration with the Universitat d'Alacant, the Universitat Politècnica de València, and the Universidad de La Laguna.

2. Data Controller

The data controller responsible for the processing of your personal data is the Universitat d'Alacant, with registered address at Carretera Sant Vicent del Raspeig s/n, 03690 Sant Vicent del Raspeig, Alicante, Spain. For data protection enquiries, you may contact the Data Protection Officer (DPO) at: dpd@ua.es.

3. Personal Data Collected

Upon registration, we collect the following personal data: full name, institutional email address, institutional affiliation, username, and the stated reason for requesting access. This information is used solely to manage your account and to verify the legitimacy of access requests.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

The processing of your personal data is based on:

Performance of a task carried out in the public interest (Art. 6(1)(e) GDPR), in the context of scientific research and publicly funded academic activity.
Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), provided at the time of registration by accepting these Terms and Conditions.

5. Use of Your Data

Your personal data will be used to:

Create and manage your user account.
Verify your eligibility to access the database.
Contact you regarding your account or important updates to the platform.
Comply with obligations derived from the project's public funding (NextGenerationEU / PRTR), which may include anonymised usage statistics reported to funding bodies.

Your data will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

6. Data Retention

Your personal data will be retained for as long as your account remains active, and for a minimum period of 5 years following the end of the funding project, in accordance with obligations imposed by EU regulations on NextGenerationEU funds (EU Regulation 2021/241). After this period, data will be deleted or anonymised.

7. International Transfers

Your personal data is stored and processed within the European Economic Area (EEA). No international transfers to third countries are carried out. Should this change, you will be informed in advance and appropriate safeguards will be implemented in accordance with Chapter V of the GDPR.

8. Your Rights

Under the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679) and the Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right of access: obtain confirmation of whether your data is being processed and access a copy of it.
Right to rectification: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): request deletion of your data, subject to applicable legal retention obligations.
Right to restriction of processing: request that processing be limited in certain circumstances.
Right to data portability: receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
Right to object: object to processing based on public interest or legitimate interests.
Right to withdraw consent: withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Authority (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos – AEPD) at www.aepd.es.

9. Acceptable Use

By registering, you agree to use the data and resources available on this platform exclusively for research, educational, or scientific purposes. Any redistribution, commercialisation, or misuse of the data is strictly prohibited. Authorised use must be consistent with the objectives of the funding programme (NextGenerationEU / PRTR).

10. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure, in accordance with Article 32 of the GDPR. Passwords are stored in encrypted form and are never accessible in plain text.

11. Automated Decision-Making

No automated decision-making or profiling (as defined in Article 22 of the GDPR) is carried out in relation to your personal data.
